Al Barsha is a major residential district in western Dubai covering 38.1 sq km with a population of 181,310, divided into five sub-communities: Al Barsha 1 (commercial/apartments), Al Barsha 2 and 3 (villas), Al Barsha South (mixed, home to Dubai Miracle Garden), and Barsha Heights (commercial high-rises near Dubai Internet City). The community grew from 1,248 residents in 2000 to over 181,310 in 2023 — a remarkable expansion driven by the opening of the Mall of the Emirates in 2005 and the development of multiple residential sub-zones. Today, Al Barsha is one of Dubai's most cosmopolitan districts, home to working professionals, expatriate families, university students, and a steady flow of tourists drawn by Mall of the Emirates, Ski Dubai, Dubai Miracle Garden, and the area's hotel cluster.

Each sub-community has its own character. Al Barsha 1 is the commercial heart — densely populated with mid-rise apartment buildings, hotels, and the Mall of the Emirates itself. It's bustling, busy, and serves as the area's primary tourist gateway. Al Barsha 2 and 3 are villa-dominated, quieter, and family-oriented — popular with long-term residents who want suburban space without leaving the city. Al Barsha 2 hosts Al Barsha Pond Park, Al Barsha Mall, and Art of Living Mall (opened 2023). Al Barsha 3 contains Saudi German Hospital and prestigious schools like Kings School and Repton.

Al Barsha South is a rapidly developing zone with mid-rise apartments, the Dubai Miracle Garden (in Al Barsha South 3 / Dubailand area, with 150 million flowers across 72,000 sq m), Dubai Butterfly Garden, and Dubai Science Park — appealing to professionals who want newer infrastructure at competitive rates. Barsha Heights (rebranded from TECOM in 2016, developed by TECOM Group / Dubai Holding) is the business and leisure pulse of the area, dominated by 90+ high-rise residential, office, hotel apartment, and commercial towers built from 2006 onward. As a free zone, it hosts hundreds of SMEs in media, tech, and consultancy. Notable buildings include Al Shafar Tower, Two Towers, the Al Shaiba complex, The Onyx, Smart Heights, DAMAC Executive Heights, First Central Hotel Suites, Auris Metro Central Hotel Apartments, and Media Rotana. It sits adjacent to Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City, and Dubai Knowledge Village — making it ideal for tech and media professionals. Note that Barsha Heights has been a paid parking zone since November 2018 (AED 4/hour Monday-Saturday), and the closest metro is Dubai Internet City Metro Station on the Red Line.

Despite its size, Barsha is remarkably accessible. Six Red Line metro stations serve the district and its immediate neighbours — Sharaf DG, Mall of the Emirates, Mashreq, Equiti, InsuranceMarket, and Dubai Internet City (which directly serves Barsha Heights) — providing connections to Dubai Marina, JBR, Downtown, and Dubai International Airport. Major roadways including Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road put the rest of Dubai within a 25-minute drive. The combination of public transit, building-included parking, and reliable taxi coverage makes daily transport flexible for most residents.

TECOM freelancers & Internet City professionals Barsha Heights is a free zone hosting hundreds of SMEs in media, tech, and consultancy at Al Shafar Tower, Two Towers, Smart Heights, and similar buildings. The retail and entertainment anchor is Mall of the Emirates in Al Barsha 1 — opened in September 2005, it remains one of Dubai's biggest malls with 630+ retail outlets, 80+ luxury brands, the famous Ski Dubai indoor ski resort (opened November 2005), VOX Cinemas, and two attached hotels (Kempinski and Sheraton). It receives over 40 million visitors annually. Al Barsha Pond Park in Al Barsha 2 covers roughly 50 acres around a man-made lake, with a 1.5 km running track, dedicated cycling path, tennis and basketball courts, a football pitch, outdoor fitness equipment, three children's play areas, and boat rentals — entry is free, parking is free. Dubai Miracle Garden in Al Barsha South 3 (Dubailand area) is the world's largest natural flower garden with around 150 million flowers in seasonal displays (open November–May), spanning 72,000 square metres with ~3,500 free parking spaces. Adjacent Dubai Butterfly Garden is open year-round, climate-controlled, with around 15,000 butterflies across multiple domes.

Healthcare options are extensive. Al Zahra Hospital Dubai in Al Barsha 1 is a multi-specialty private hospital. Saudi German Hospital Dubai on Hessa Street, Al Barsha 3 (opposite American School of Dubai, opened March 2012, 165 beds) offers tertiary care across cardiology, neurology, orthopaedics, oncology, and other specialties. American Hospital Clinic in Al Barsha 2 handles paediatrics, ophthalmology, and other specialities. IMC Medical Centre in Al Barsha 2 covers dental, dermatology, and plastic surgery. Pharmacies — Boots, Life, BinSina, Aster — are widespread.

Education is one of Al Barsha's defining strengths. Schools include GEMS Dubai American Academy, The American School of Dubai (Al Barsha 1), Dubai National School (Al Barsha 1), Al Mawakeb School (Al Barsha 1), Nord Anglia International School, Kings School (Al Barsha 3), GEMS Founder School (Al Barsha South), and Repton School. Driving from Al Barsha to the rest of Dubai

Al Barsha connects to Sheikh Zayed Road (E11), Al Khail Road (E44), and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) — three of Dubai's main arteries. Dubai Marina is 10–15 minutes. Downtown Dubai is 20–25 minutes. DXB Airport is 25–30 minutes. Al Maktoum Airport is 30–35 minutes via Al Khail Road. Sharjah is 35–45 minutes.

The sub-communities all sit between three major highways. Sheikh Zayed Road (E11) on the west handles trips to Marina, JBR, Palm Jumeirah, Downtown, and onward to Abu Dhabi. Al Khail Road (E44) on the east is faster for trips to Business Bay, Dubai Hills, and DXB Airport. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) on the south-east connects to Sharjah, Mirdif, and northern emirates. Salik tolls are reasonable — most central Dubai trips require 1–2 gates, but Sharjah trips can hit 2–3. Mall of the Emirates trips within Al Barsha 1 require no toll.
